World PERCUSSION COURSES

Welcome to Humberview's World Percussion Program

Drawing inspiration from drumming and percussion instruments and rhythms from around the world, our unique World Percussion program has been an important part of Humberview's Music Program for almost 25 years.

All levels of drumming ability are welcome! We focus mainly on goblet drums, such as djembes, doumbeks and ashiko. We also study techniques on surdo, congas, bongos, dundun, donno and cajon, and a large collection of auxiliary percussion instruments. We have a pretty impressive inventory of drums in our Percussion Studio!

Students study cultural rhythms and learn to read traditional rhythmic notation. A major focus of each class in on creativity; group composition and drum circles are a regular feature of the program.

Grade 10 students should sign up for AMP 2O0. Grade 11 students should sign up for AMP 3M0 and Grade 12 Students should sign up for AMP 4M0.

Please note that the Grade 11 and 12 courses are Mixed-Level courses, and count toward both College and University acceptances. Because of this, you should have a previous years' experience in the AMP program to enrol in AMP 3M0.
