BAND COURSES

Welcome to Humberview Band!

Our four-year concert band program is a proud 40-year tradition at Humberview. We offer courses at each level, from grades 9-12, plus two extra-curricular concert bands and two jazz ensembles.

Band is free to take at Humberview! Through fundraising initiatives over the years we now own well over 100 instruments for our students to use. If you own your own instrument or would rather rent, that is fine as well.

Our band program consists of four levels. Incoming Grade Nine students should sign up for AMI 1O0. Grade Ten students take AMI 2O0, Grade Eleven students take AMI 3M0 and Grade 12 students take AMI 4M0. Both the Grade Eleven and Twelve courses are Mixed-Level, which means that they count toward both University and College acceptances.

A note on instrumentation:
Humberview is fortunate to own all of the instruments in the band, including all double-reeds, low brass, a full concert percussion section and string (upright) basses. If you are a drummer or a electric bassist, we want you in our program! You will be perform in class either in our concert percussion section (we do not typically use a drum kit in Concert Band), or, for our electric bassists, you will be taught to play the string bass. The string bass is set up in a similar manner to the electric bass, but it is acoustic and uses a bow. We provide all of these instruments and accessories for our students. Electric bass and drum kit players will also have an opportunity to audition for one of our Jazz Ensembles or for the rhythm section in our Vocal Jazz group.

The instruments that are in the band include:

Piccolo
Flutes
Oboes
Bassoons
Bb Clarinets
Alto Clarinets
Bass Clarinets
Soprano Saxophones
Alto Saxophones
Tenor Saxophones
Baritone Saxophones
Trumpets
French Horns
Euphoniums (you may know these as "Baritones")
Trombones
Bass Trombones
Tubas
Percussion
String Basses

If you play a different instrument (i.e., piano, 'cello, violin or viola), contact us so that we can set you up with a comparable instrument that is in the band!
