All faculty members of PSU from all five (5) Goa colleges and six (6) campuses
Date: May 18 - July 17, 2020
The Partido State University, under any circumstance, is committed to provide quality instruction for its students. It is prepared to respond to the call of the times to ensure that students are afforded optimal learning experience. In the face of the new normal brought about by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the advent of Education 4.0, there is a need to transform higher education from traditional classroom activities to the more interactive and flexible, open, and distance education modes. With the foregoing, the institution is set to adopt a flexible learning system (e.g. blended learning, distance modular learning), as encouraged by the Commission on Higher Education. As a major step toward this direction, PSU shall conduct a massive training for all faculty members from all five (5) Goa colleges and six (6) campuses.
An instructor/professor who has been accustomed to a face-to-face (F2F) conventional/residential class has assumed most of the lecturing and providing of inputs to students. Under open and distance e-teaching, this role may be largely replaced by online resources, embracing the rapid adoption of technology-supported alternative mode/s including online teaching and learning. Students can access a wealth of information way beyond the references that the teacher can enumerate. The instructor/professor can recommend readings and sources but students remain with a wide variety of selections. Therefore, a big percentage of the instructor’s role in online teaching is helping the student process the data and information available on the internet. Class modules should be designed in such a way that learning objectives are directed toward higher-level thinking skills.
This training program aims to capacitate PSU faculty members with the skills needed to design, develop, and evaluate online and distance e-teaching objectives, activities, resources, and assessment strategies. Specifically, at the end of this program, the faculty-participants should be able to:
(Re)Design class modules to align with online teaching that is interactive, collaborative and student-centered;
Prepare both resource-based and activity-based class modules;
Assess existing online platforms that would optimize student learning along with a particular discipline, course, learning objective, or topic;
Maximize the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs) in online teaching recognized by Creative Commons, Inc. and digital learning resources;
(Re)Design learning and assessment tasks that would help students process the wealth of data and information available on the web;
Adopt mechanisms for continuous improvement in ODeT to be constantly in sync both with rapid technological developments and changing needs of higher education.
All PSU faculty are expected to join this one-hour orientation seminar on MAY 18, 2020 at 9:30 am via Zoom App. The ID and password for the meeting will be sent through the corporate mail and other platforms used by PSU colleges and campuses.
All PSU Faculty are required to register in the training program. To register, please click the link for registration provided herein.

Faculty-participants shall be oriented on ways to convert learning materials into digital format to support student’s achievement of learning objectives, to optimize the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and digital learning resources which are reliable and discipline-appropriate, and to utilize technology-based applications in migrating course content online.
Rowell John B. Artiaga, MIT
Faculty-participants will learn to develop both resource-based and activity-based class modules, to assess a variety of existing online platforms that would optimize student learning along a particular discipline, course, learning objective, or topic, and actually develop learning activities and assessment tasks using selected platforms and ICT tools.
Ariane P. Adundabar, MS
Faculty-participants will be guided to adapt in online teaching environment especially because assessment activities are not face to face anymore. They will prepare assessment tasks to help the student process data and information on the internet. Assessment questions cannot remain on “what” or “where” but should level up to “how” and “why.” Teachers shall prepare assessment tasks that would manifest the student’s ability to apply learning content on real-life situations and/or case problems.
Rolan Jon G. Bulao
The delivery of instruction and related activities in online and distance education must be able to achieve the desired learning outcomes for the course and the program. To this end, an embedded evaluation and feedback mechanism must be incorporated in the design of the ODeT platform. The evaluation results and feedback are but a single way of ascertaining the quality of ODeT. There are several other means by which we can maintain and improve its quality. These and more shall be discussed with the participants prior to their active participation in the workshop.
Faculty-participants will be introduced to international and national organizations committed to ensure quality in open and distance education, and tools used for assessment. They will be acquainted with major areas of quality such as learner-centeredness, interactivity and collaboration in learning, quality of OERs, faculty development, continued research, efforts for continuous improvement, and International collaboration.
Dr. Wendy M. Solomo
Faculty-participants will be oriented that learner support is a non-negotiable component of open and distance education, that it regards students as active and proactive participants in the learning process rather than passive recipients. This module shall focus on the cognitive, affective and systemic aspects (UPOU, 2017) of learner support.
Hazel Jean C. Pesino, MIT
Faculty-participants will be introduced to inclusivity as a core philosophy of open and distance education so that all students are given the opportunity to maximize the benefits of ICT in their growth as individuals and/or professionals. They will be challenged to regard students not only as a group with common needs but individual persons with a wide range of uniqueness given their geographical locations, individual upbringing (UPOU, 2017), and economic status.
