Project Qualification

PQ is a Project Qualification designed to provide a framework to develop learners' critical, reflective, research, problem-solving and independent learning skills, leading to

an accredited qualification assessed by

Edexcel Exam Board

Level 1 - Foundation Project Qualification and Level 2 - Higher Project Qualifications offer an opportunity for a more engaging learning process, allowing learners to pursue their own interest, develop critical thinking and research skills. This can link learners to the real world smoothly. The Project have been designed for learners to study a topic area which extends or expands their learning in an appropriate area of study as a standalone qualification.

Project Qualification course has value for 3 reasons:

1. It provides a time to learners to gain skills in research, analysis, argumentation, academic writing, technical skills and skills in review and presentation which will be needed once project work is underway.

2. It offers a chance to explore case study stimulus material, which can help students to think more deeply and in a more creative way about the possible topics they might like to work on for their project.

3. It provides a context for breaking out of the curriculum boxes which inhibit the development of students’ capacities for independent learning. It helps to explore ideas through discussion and debate in a creative way, uninhibited by the constraints of a formal curriculum. It is therefore possible for students to begin to think more deeply and analytically and for them to explore ideas in a cross-curricular fashion. This sort of learning environment is an excellent launch-pad for high-quality project work.

These qualifications will enable learners to:

• develop as inquisitive and independent learners

• be inspired and enthused by new areas or methods of study

• support the experiential learning process and find further opportunities to plan and review their learning

• use their learning experiences to support their personal aspirations for further study and career development

• where appropriate, develop as e-confident learners and apply relevant technologies in their studies
