a sunlit evening
darker days in isolation
This project was my favorite of the class. It taught me a lot in terms of capturing emotion, as well as juxtaposing tones. I wouldn't like to choose a favorite of the two, because I feel that they're better as a unit, they display two possible conditions in one time period dictated by a demand for isolation. My main challenge in the first shoot was balancing my exposure, because since I took it at sunset instead of sunrise, the landscape was backlit. Turning the photo the other direction wasn't an option, because the background on the other side was the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The idea of the two photos stems from the concept of isolation in two different ways- one being alone in the beautiful Cody foothills, the other being trapped alone at home, yearning to leave and socialize. This was my most successful of the projects, and with more time, I would (and plan to) expand the series.
