We recognize that some students may have severe allergies that require special attention and care. To ensure the well-being of all students, we have established the following Allergy and EpiPen Policy:
Allergy Information:
Documentation: Parents are required to inform the school nurse of any known allergies that their child may have and provide the school with a completed Allergy Action Plan, signed by a licensed physician. This document should detail the student’s allergies, symptoms of an allergic reaction, and specific instructions for EpiPen use.
Health Records: The student’s allergy information will be recorded in their health records, accessible to relevant staff while maintaining confidentiality. Parents should inform the school of any changes in their child’s allergy status or medication needs.
EpiPen Provision:
Students with known severe allergies that may result in anaphylaxis will be required to have an EpiPen on campus at all times.
Parents are responsible for providing the school with a prescribed EpiPen for their child, along with a signed consent form allowing school staff to administer the EpiPen if necessary.
All EpiPens must be clearly labelled with the student’s name and expiration date.
EpiPen Training:
Designated staff members, including the school nurse and selected teachers, will receive training on how to recognize the signs of an allergic reaction and administer the EpiPen correctly.
Regular drills and training sessions will be conducted to ensure that staff members are prepared to respond effectively in case of an emergency.
Allergy Management:
In the event of an allergic reaction, the school nurse or trained staff member will administer the EpiPen immediately and contact emergency services.
Parents will be notified as soon as possible following the administration of the EpiPen.
Communication and Collaboration:
The school will work closely with parents, healthcare providers, and relevant staff members to develop individualised allergy management plans for students with severe allergies.
Regular communication will be maintained to ensure that all parties are informed and prepared to respond appropriately in case of an allergic reaction.
