Extensive experience in the arts is not necessary for admission. We have many successful students currently in the middle and high schools who came to us as beginners. The key requirement for admission is a serious interest in pursuing an arts-intensive education.
The CPFA application for admission also requires pictures, videos, links, etc. that showcase the applicants artistic interests and current skill-level. Audition materials should include at least two different arts disciplines.
Students interested in taking a dance class through the CPFA Online! program should indicate this in their application for admission/audition interview and are not required to submit a dance audition video.
Students interested in taking a dance class at CPFA through the On-Site program will be performing a live audition at our on-site audition day. This audition will include learning a short basic group number followed by a solo audition. If you are interested in a dance class but have little or no prior experience, we would like to empower you to participate in the group audition to the best of your ability.
TAP
Those with Tap experience will need to learn and perform a 32 count combination that will be taught to them at the audition.
BALLET
Those with Ballet experience will need to demonstrate (to the best of their ability) at the audition:
Pirouette combination that shows en dehors turns
16 changements and a petite allegro
Traveling jump combination that shows saut de chat
ALL OTHER DANCE FORMS
Dance students with prior experience should be prepared to perform a 1 minute dance in any style and be prepared to demonstrate skills as requested by the dance teachers.
Please email the CPFA Dance Department Chair, Lisa Carey, directly at lcarey@palcs.org with any dance related questions.
