Jazz Mavericks is the top instrumental music ensemble at CPFA and is an opportunity available only to students who attend full-time on-site classes in West Chester, PA. Some of the Jazz Mavericks recent accolades include:
Ranked 3rd in the nation in small ensemble competition with an Outstanding Solo Musician Award at the 2022 National Jazz Festival
Ranked 5th in the nation in small ensemble competition at the 2023 National Jazz Festival
Scored a Superior with Honors rating in Open Class evaluation, with 100% of the performers receiving a Best Soloist Medal at the Cavalcade of Bands Jazz Festival at Unionville HS February 2024
Jazz Mavericks 1st place Gold Rating, Jazz Travelers 2nd place Silver Rating, Sweepstakes Award at the WorldStrides Heritage Festival in New York City, 2024

Jazz Mavericks was selected from over 75 applicants to be a featured performing ensemble at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Annual In-Service Conference on April 11, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Kilamanjaro Ballroom lobby.

Jazz Mavericks is a one-credit full year elective course of study that appears on your high school transcript. It is a rigorous course designed to give both academic and "real world" experiences in all aspects of jazz and contemporary instrumental music. Nearly 100% of our Jazz Mavericks rhythm section alumni have gone on to careers in music performance, music business, music technology, music education, and others. Even for those who do not choose music as a career, Jazz Mavericks enables them to still "gig on the side" as an avocation while they pursue other career paths.
