Week beginning - Monday 2nd March 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
We have had a very busy week of learning in year 2.
Inquiry:
We have continued our work looking at our central idea: Events beyond living memory are retold through the arts. This week, we have been focused on line of inquiry 1: Humans make discoveries by travelling to unexplored places. We have looked in depth at a number of different explorers including Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong and Robert Falcon Scott. We used some AI tools so interview the explorers and learn more about their discoveries. We looked at some art forms which explorers have used to capture their discovery. We discussed which art forms are the most common and which are the least common. We discovered that lots of explorers like to write diaries to document their journeys. We used this information to inform our writing and we have been writing diary entries from the perspective of different explorers.
Maths:
We are working hard to consolidate our unit on multiplication and division. This week, we introduced the children to doubling and halving. We discussed the similarities between doubling and halving with dividing by 2. The children were introduced to the division symbol and we used lots of concrete resources to help us working out a number of more complex multiplication and division problems.
GPaS:
In GPaS, we have continued to explore diary entries. The children were able to identify the features of a diary and they looked at a range of different diary entries to see which ones they thought were best. They used their knowledge from our GPaS lessons to help them when planning and writing their own diaries in our Inquiry lessons planned their own.
World Book Day:
World Book Day was a wonderful celebration of reading across the school! The children had a fantastic time and it was brilliant to see so many imaginative and creative costumes on display. From classic favourites to modern heroes, the effort and enthusiasm were truly impressive. Throughout the day, we celebrated our love of reading by taking part in a range of fun, book-themed activities that inspired creativity and sparked great discussion. We also explored some significant and much-loved characters from stories, including the beloved Winnie-the-Pooh as we marked his 100th birthday. It was a joyful day filled with stories, laughter, and a shared appreciation for the magic of books. As always keep reading at home, if you finish the school provided book, why not read something from your own personal collection or have a trip to Paddock Wood library to discover something new!
Maritime Museum Trip Update:
On Monday the office sent out a Google Form for parents and/or carers to fill out if you would like to support on our trip to the Maritime Museum in a few weeks time. We already have a large number of adults from the school attending the trip but would be lovely to have some additional hands. We have already had a number of responses so thank you for your support. Unfortunately, will not be able to accomodate everyone who signs up due to such a high level of interest. Closing date for registering your interest is 20th March.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a lovely weekend.

2HB
For being an exemplary communicator in our new maths topic. You used the multicubes effectively to work out your answers to new division and multiplication questions. You were then able to talk through your reasoning and explain how you got to your answer, whilst also listening to your peers. Keep up the fantastic work!
2B
Nina, you have been a principled learner consistently this week. You have been an excellent example for other students of how to learn well and play well with others. Well done!
2OB
Kit you have been a wonderful inquirer this week. Your love for space has shone through the learning opportunities you have completed this week. It has been lovely to see you immerse yourself into our inquiry learning. Well done!
2HB
You read with confidence this week. You were keen to read with adults in the classroom and it was lovely to see your enthusiasm!
2B
There have been several times this week when I have noticed that you were reading clearly and accurately. You set a good example for the other students when you do this. Keep it up.
2OB
Your reading and comprehension skills have developed massively over the last few weeks. You always share such lovely thoughts and ideas about the texts we read. Keep up the fantastic work!
