Esports refers to competitive video gaming where players compete individually or in teams in various games. Like traditional sports, Esports emphasizes strategy, teamwork, and skill development.
To provide students with a structured environment to engage in competitive gaming, while fostering skills such as teamwork, strategic thinking, and communication. Additionally, the program aims to promote inclusivity and community among students with diverse interests, while also preparing them for future opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. We hope to enhance student engagement and create a positive outlet for competition and collaboration.
Middle and high school students at PCA are welcome to join the Esports program.
Students in the Esports program will join once a week virtual practice and compete in 5 in-person game days per semester. They will also be completing lessons in EGLs STEM Academy to learn about career opportunities in STEM.
The PCA Esports program will feature games such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and Rocket League. Only games rated "E" for everyone by the Entertainment Rating Software Board (ERSB) are played in our league, Elite Gaming Live.
We have partnered with EliteGaming Live (EGL) to help bring Esports to PCA. EGL is a competitive gaming league for middle and high school students. EGL has an online platform we use to track points student earn on games days and lessons completed in the EGL STEM Academy.
