Whether you are new to PCA or a PCA parent transitioning to high school, we hope these resources are helpful for you. This is not an exhaustive list, but a good place to start as a new PCA high school parent.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your HST for assistance.
Learning Period Meetings:
Students and learning coaches meet with their HST at least once every 20 school days to review the student's body of work, check student progress in courses, provide curriculum and academic support, discuss updates about testing, goals, and answer any other questions the family may have.
Meetings must be held in-person every other Learning Period, with virtual meetings the alternate Learning Periods
Body of Work and Work Samples:
Every learning period, HST’s are to collect high quality demonstration of learning work samples and see a body of work completed by the student for each course on the student's master agreement.
For a high school student, work samples and the body of work is generally submitted in Schoology OR directly in the student's AG-as is course.
Please speak with your HST if you have questions about work samples and body of work submissions.
Schoology is the Learning Management System (LMS) that PCA uses for Choice Plus Academy, Career and Technical Education, English Language Development, Outline Courses and many elective courses
Students submit work for courses via Schoology
Students and parents can access Schoology to view course work and gradebooks
All high school students have a Schoology account. Middle school students taking certain high school courses will also have Schoology accounts
All high school courses taken at PCA must have an online gradebook
This is slightly different than if you have a TK-8 student with us. The online gradebooks for high school students act as the AWR gradebook document that you and your HST use for your TK-8 student(s)
If you have a middle school student taking a high school course, they will have an online gradebook as an AWR
Please reach out to your HST if you have questions about HS gradebooks/AWRs or gradebooks/AWRs for middle school students taking high school classes
Complete daily check-ins with your student to go over what assignments were completed, time spent on coursework, grades, and successes and struggles
Establish a school schedule with your student, itemizing out the times/days coursework will be completed
Reach out to your HST immediately if your student is struggling to start academic support and discuss other resources to help your student in their courses
Read weekly emails from your HST and HQTs (for in-house curriculum options)
For the 26/27 SY high school students receive access to Sora Digital Library, IXL, IXL Spanish, and Courseware for free via the OSP.
Visit the the OSP website for more information about these programs and additional subscriptions options that can be ordered through the OSP a la carte.
Some popular OSP a la carte options for high school students are Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Rosetta Stone.
Elevate Learning Labs provide free, online enrichment classes taught by PCA HSTs
You will receive a weekly email reminding you of our Elevate classes and the links
