Approaches to Learning
Thinking Skills
This unit we are focusing on supporting and guiding students to show the process of their learning. This will be done via thinking skills. Students will begin recording their thinking throughout the unit.
In our “How We Organize Ourselves” Unit, we have learned about how everything in our world—people, plants, animals, and the way we do things—is connected!
We have explored the systems, structures, and networks that help our community work together and thrive! More specifically, we have been learning about different community helpers, roles in our communities, and how all members of our communities are essential to making our neighborhoods special! We learned and studied about Police Officers and Firefighters.
In our classes, we have been discussing the roles and tools of different members of our neighborhoods and communities. In Kindergarten, we have been learning about Firefighters and Police Officers. We have identified the special tools they use to carry out their jobs properly and different ways that they can assist people. We were visited by a Police Officer, who was able to show us his police car, and we received a video from a real Firefighter that answered our "wonderings."
Questions We Had For A Firefighter:
Why do you drive big red trucks?
Do you have a firehouse dog?
Have you ever rescued pets(cats/dogs)?
Why do you wear a helmet and a face mask?
What does the inside of a fire truck look like?
Why do you need to wear big gloves?
