The Learner Profile Attribute of the Month
September’s learner profile attribute is CARING. When we show caring we show empathy, compassion and respect. We strive to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
The Pillar of the Month
September’s pillar of the month is KINDNESS. Kindergarten students have engaged and worked on creating a caring and respectful environment promoting kindness through our actions and words. Such activities are as follow
- coming up with classroom expectations/rules
- creating a list of what to say or do to show being a good friend
- communicating with peers and teachers in a caring and respectful way
The Language Policy and what that means in your classrooms
In our Kindergarten classrooms we view language as the magical bridge that connects all the different things students learn at school. Learning about language, through vocabulary in reading, writing, math, science, art, etc. helps students understand those foundational mechanics of the language. Learning the language promotes improving a student’s ability to communicate effectively with others. Learning through language, helping students use the language to connect, reflect, and explore new ideas.

2. Being open to new ideas, experiences, and perspectives (perspective and form)
3. Identifying similarities and differences (form)
Concepts

Form - Students will examine the different forms of how people interact within a community. For example, they will identify similarities and differences in behaviors, traditions, and ways of connecting with others.
Approaches to Learning
Thinking Skills
This unit we are focusing on supporting and guiding students to show the process of their learning. This will be done via thinking skills. Students will begin recording their thinking throughout the unit.
Exploring Perspective
Students completed a task where they drew an image and orally shared what they did over the summer. This activity highlighted how each person’s experiences were different, showing that our unique perspectives make us special. As a class, we discussed how these summer activities shape who we are and help us appreciate the individuality of others.
Exploring Form
Students practiced the concept of form by focusing on how letters and numbers are written and organized. They worked carefully to form letters into words and recorded their age, making sure to place information in the correct spots on the worksheet. To support their writing, students used the sound wall as a tool to connect sounds to letters and strengthen their language skills.
