SATs WEEK
Our biggest acheivement this term was making it thorough SATs week with our smiles intact. SATs are important but they are not the whole picture and we know that this group of children have many talents away from their academic capabilities: being creative, musical, theatrical, sporty and a whole load of fun BUT we are so very proud of them all and the efforts that they made!
Guardians of the Wild
This term we all became Guardians of the Wild. This followed a visit to the Arundal Wetland Centre. To acheive this we had to take part in a number of nature based activites including: rolling down a slope, building an ant trail, creating a picture from natural objects and running barefoot on the grass. It was a real reminder to the Year 6 team, that sometimes children just want to be children and that in this modern world with devices and the internet it's a great thing to just spend time in nature!
Talk for Writing
What a term for Writing! The children started the term crafting absolutely wonderful portal stories many of which had fantastic twists at the end. We then finished the term writing information texts about the country of Italy as part of our diversity week. Here are just a sample of our Portal stories.
Maths SATs Success
Throughout this term, Year 6 pupils have worked incredibly hard to prepare for their Maths SATs, and we are proud to say they have successfully completed the tests with focus and determination.
In the lead-up to the exams, children revised key areas including arithmetic, reasoning, fractions, percentages, and problem-solving. Through daily practice, targeted group work, and interactive revision activities, pupils built their confidence and deepened their understanding of core mathematical concepts.
We are especially proud of the way they tackled each paper with resilience and a positive mindset. The support from home has made a real difference – thank you for helping with practice papers, encouraging revision, and keeping spirits high.
Now that SATs are behind us, we look forward to applying our maths skills in fun, real-world contexts during the rest of the summer term.
Diversity Week – Focus on Italy!
Year 6 took part in an exciting and enriching Diversity Week, with a focus on Italy. Through a range of creative and engaging activities, pupils explored Italian geography, identifying key cities, regions and physical features such as the Alps and Mediterranean coastline. In history, they investigated the legacy of Ancient Rome and the influence of Italian culture across Europe.
The children also had the opportunity to learn about traditional Italian food and learn about regional dishes and customs. A real highlight was learning basic Italian phrases and greetings, which they confidently practised with one another.
