We are making excellent progress in our Read Write Inc. lessons. Please keep up the great support at home with regularly listening to your child read. Every day please, every day!
This term we have been learning the Three Billy Goats Gruff text. The children have loved writing about Trolls, acting out the story with props and masks and trip trapping over their own bridges. Their sentence writing is looking amazing. They are very proud of their work.
This term in our Maths lessons we have been exploring addition and subtracting. They are developing a solid understanding of part whole models and using number tracks. We have also been learning about number patterns within 20. Next we are going to be going beyond 20 and I know they are excited!
This term the Reception children have worked hard at widening their friendship groups. We have noticed that children are deepening their bonds with previous friends but also including new people in their play and forging new friendships. We have begun to think about the transition to Year 1 and had some discussions about what might be the same and what might be different.
During this term we have been exploring the World we live in through food and finding out where the food we eat comes from. We have learned about farms in our country as well as farms from far away. We have explored various fruits and vegetables to find out how they grow, in the ground or on trees? what they look like inside, seeds or are they roots? We have even looked at how an artist (Arcimboldo) uses fruits and vegetables to make portraits. We also carried out a science experiment to find out what helps to stop apples from turning brown.
We have loved welcoming Nursery to our Forest School sessions this term. The Reception children have been excellent role models for how to be safe at Forest School. The hammock has become a firm favourite helping with turn taking and fairness as well as being the best fun! Lots if wood cookie necklaces have been made and there has been plenty of persevering skills developed when it comes to trying to light the fire for hot chocolate.
