Well this term flew by in the wink of an eye! But our glorious Turtles, true to form embraced every single minute of their learning especially our 'Food' topic where we discovered how bread is made and how milk ends up in our fridge! We even got to milk our nursery cows Daisy and Buttercup!
This term saw three new Turtles join our 'nest': Tommy, Leo and Eddie who were welcomed with open arms and choruses of ....'Hello'... and 'Your coat goes here' as they were quickly shown all the joys of Nursery life. Sadly we had to say 'Goodbye' to two of our older Turtles, Zara and Rosalia who have moved away from Hastings to pastures new. A few tears were shed and lots of hugs all round as we wished our travelling Turtles all the very best for the future.
As the Turtles continue to build friendships with each other we are learning how our actions may affect others and are beginning to find ways to resolve these conflicts by taking account of each other's viewpoints but at the same time assert our own ideas. This is beautifully illustrated when playing in the water area as, maybe we don't want to pour the water down the tube. BUT when our friend shows us what happens to the boat as the water cascades down, suddenly 'Yes this is a good idea' and 'Lets do it again and again!'
Our 'Talk4Writing' story this term has been 'The Little Red Hen' and we quickly understood how important it is to be kind to each other, after all - good things happen when we are! New vocabulary arose from the story such as 'grain' 'ground' and we discussed what was meant by 'ground' when the hen took the grain to the mill.
Our 'Food' topic also introduced the Turtles to the concept of 'above ground' and 'below ground' when chatting about where certain vegetables grow, then putting this knowledge to the test with our own 'field' by deciding where each vegetable or fruit would grow. When one of our Turtles spotted the corn on the cob, he quickly informed his friends that " This makes popcorn....yeah mum puts it in the microwave and it goes pop, pop, pop, pop," jumping around as he demonstrated the popping corn. Suddenly the whole Nursery became a large microwave with lots of popping Turtles popcorn jumping around! Giggling until they were all 'popped out'!
Snack time and breakfast always provides a lovely time to relax and chat about what we may be doing today and what we got up to at home, but don't worry what is said in Nursery stays in Nursery.....your secrets are safe with us!
