This term we learned all about plants and the children were lucky enough to plant sweet peas and poppies.
They learned that plants grow from seeds and bulbs and what a plant needs to be healthy.
This term we learned about the Yanomami tribe who live in the Amazon rainforest. We learned about the different layers of the rainforest, the climate and that it has a river and a forest. The children discussed what resources the Yanomami need to build their houses, created fact files, posters and made collages of the layers.
In Year 1 talk for writing this term we have looked at the fiction story 'What a monkey sees a monkey does'. The children have focused on setting descriptions using adjectives, similes and prepositions. We then innovated our story and came up with our own versions. The children had some fatastic ideas and we loved reading them.
In year 2, our fiction text was, 'The owl who was afraid of the dark.' Our focus was on setting description and we used all of the tools that we have learned this year such as similes, adjectives and prepositions. In Diversity week the class wrote a letter persuading parents why they should be allowed to go to Japan. The quality of the writing this term has been outstanding and every child should be very proud of themselves.
This week for Diversity week we learned all about Japan. The class loved learning the counting song to 10 in Japanese and the greetings for hello, good morning and thank you. We learned lots of interesting facts about Japan including Mount Fuji and the Shinto shrines. The class painted some amazing plates with different Japanese landscapes.
During diversity week, we have been exploring China. We started the week finding out key facts about China such as the capital city, which continent it is in and the largest city. We then found about Chinese New Year, the story behind it and the lantern festival. We then created our own Chinese lanterns and dragons.
During diversity week we have been looking at the country of Brazil. After finding out some key facts ,we made a fact file sheet. We then looked at the famous Rio carnival and created our own vibrant masks using paint, feathers and gems. The class also enjoyed having a go at the 'Samba' dance.
In maths this term we finished off 3D shapes and moved on to addition and subtraction involving regrouping. We have now moved on to money and so any extra practice over half term of coin recognition and adding coins to £1 would be very helpful to them!
In maths this term we have been looking at numbers from 50-100. We have looked at how many tens and how many ones are in numbers and how we can partition them.
We then compared numbers and ordered them from least to greatest. We finished the term exploring money.
