Choosing or being placed in a continuation school can feel overwhelming, especially when students hear negative stereotypes. It is important to remember that your path may look different from someone else's -- and that does not mean you cannot be successful!
Myth: "Continuation School is only for students who are failing"
Reality: Some students who attend continuation school need to recover credits, benefit from a smaller learning environment, need a more flexible schedule, or have personal, family, work, or other circumstances that make a traditional high school setting challenging.
Myth: "Collges won't accept students from continuation school"
Reality: Students who graduate from continuation school can pursue college and other post-secondary opportunities. What matters is completing the appropriate requirements and preparing for the student's indivudal goals.
Myth: "You can't graduate from continuation school"
Reality: Students can earn a high school diploma by completing the required coursework and credit.
Myth: "Going to continuation school ruins your future"
Reality: Attending a continuation school does not determine a student's future. Students can continue on to college, career training, employment, or otehr post-secondary opportunities after graduation.

Gateway to College at Laney College
Gateway to College is a dual enrollment high school program for students who are behind on credits or seeking a new path to graduation. Students earn their high school diploma while taking free college classes on the Laney College campus. With small cohorts, one-on-one support, and a caring staff, students build confidence, independence, and a clear plan for their future.
