We are really proud of the courses we offer in Vale of Leven Academy. One of the projects that the pupils love manufacturing is the metal work rose. It requires a number of manufacturing skills using intricate detail and numeracy skills. We also encourage machine usage with spot-welding and dip coating being elements that encourage creativity. Keep an eye out for our little project near Mothers Day.
"A Rose by any other name" S2 D&M
Wall-E is a new project in our current Higher Graphic Communication course. Lets be honest we get to design and learn using industry standard software and what would be more fun than preparing for exams and assessments than producing this little guy...do not let him fool you though...this little guy can be very tricky to CAD. Give it a go and send us your results on social media.
Our music projects gets pupils thinking about the environment. Its made from old tin cans and focuses on up cycling. The pupils learn how to solder the speaker to a battery and circuit board. Some really fun concepts came from this project. We love it.
Our S3 produced vector logos for the "ourcloud.buzz" logo competition. I think you will agree they have done a fantastic job...Well done everyone. Four logos from our school were in the final five for selection winners!
S2 Graphics have designed some beautiful Christmas cards. The vector logos were eventually laser cut. They look really professional.
How cute is this little guy? Back story is we are quite a wee competitive team at VOLA. All the Design Technology teachers had a competition to see who could make the best lamp...and Kevin won. In fact we love the model so much we decided to include it in our S3 Design & Manufacture Curriculum. Well done for the inspiration Mr Docherty.
It eventually gets to that stage in a young learners education where you just need to let them show you how its done! A bit of freedom to overcome their own challenges and mistakes! This topic is one of those times. S3 Graphics are given time to design, inspire and create their own self styled rooms. Here are a few samples of recent work...I think you will agree they are getting better and better each year. We can't wait to see the possibilities in another 3 years time from these pupils.
Variety is the spice of life! This is our drone project and the alternative to Wall-E and our studio apartments projects. Plenty of more to come from this little project.
Who doesn't love LEGO? It's amazing isn't it? Well our National 5 Graphics course is based around a Lego Character of the pupils choice. Preliminary, production and promotional are key learning components. Fun learning in our opinion.
Don't you just love a quirky little project? Is it to display Art or to hold a cook book in a kitchen...the secret is...it can be whatever you want it to be! If you like it have a look at our National 5 Practical Woodwork course.
Here are a selection of our Higher Graphics student apartments. Pupils were to design and sell studio aparetnemtns. Creativity, tangency, 3d modelling, it has everything!
Don't you just love this S1 project? Earphone wraps, courtesy of the future of Design Technology.
National 4 Graphics are challenged with this little beauty. The Buggy...simple chassis with axle and wheels then pupils are given freedom to develop the design the best way they can.
Not a course but a showcase of Glen Cameron's work who had a spare 5 mins and decided to practice his 3D modelling skills. Box Array, emboss and decal from a 3rd year? Cannot be anything apart from impressed to be honest. You will find more of his worked on our website. Well done Glen!
This is just an example of the excellent work our S3 Graphics do while learning developments. Trust, creativity and patience are key to success. Past projects include The Simpsons city and future projects include Harry Potter...keep an eye out for this amazing work to follow. In the mean time...How good is this Balamory project that now has pride of place on the classroom wall?
