Task 5 -
Modelling your design!
Using card, paper, Plasticine, anything from the recycling,
model some of your design concepts.
Take pictures of you holding your model and your
model in use.
Task 3 -
Lets look at your research from last week.
On a google doc/slide answer the following questions.
What problems did you uncover in your research?
What product could be improved? or does it not exist yet?
What were the problems?
What are your first thoughts on how to solve this problem?
If the problem has to hold an object what size will it have to be?
Write out a list of things you could try to solve the problem.
Take pictures to help you.
Task 4 - Lets Sketch!!
Sketch out some different ways you could solve your problem.
Play around with your ideas and solutions - lots of different ideas will help you get to the best solution.
Use all your sketching skills to show your designs from different angles and 3D.
KEEP ALL YOUR DESIGNS !!!
Every design serves a purpose: keep your designs for future reference, they may just spark a new idea.
Ask for feedback on your designs from those around you and write their comments next to your sketches.
Remember to think about - what is it meant to do ? / will it be comfortable to hold ? / does it look good ?
You will have this lesson and next lesson to sketch all your ideas.
This project is all about kitchen gadgets and utensils.
Your first task is to look at the history of kitchen gadgets.
Your second task is to become a spy, a detective, a reporter and seek out some information.
Do you know people who cook? Watch them cook.....is there anything you see that could be made better / improved or invented...something missing? Ask them what they need in the kitchen / what needs improved, what problems do they find in the kitchen? I could be something small, it could be something big.
Why dont YOU get in the kitchen. Make something ...cereal... Toast... a cake .. lunch...a dinner ....a cuppa. Did you come across any problems? Is there anything that could be improved / made better? Anything that could be made easier?
....lets see what you can find out.
Make notes of your questions and answers / take pictures and attach to your assignments.
Lets build!
To celebrate the Chinese new year the Royal Navy has put together The Chinese Dragon Boat Challenge.
You will find instructions and a template that you can sketch out or print to help in your design, feel free to adapt and make your design as creative and colourful as possible. Your only constraint is that you can only use 1 sheet of A4 paper for the body of your boat - the rest is up to you.
Your Task this week is to print/draw out your template, decorate and assemble. Take a picture of your work for this lesson and upload it to your assignments.
I look forward to seeing your designs.
This week we will be reminding ourselves of our Sketching skills over the last few weeks.
The tasks this week are to complete a page of sketches of a 'boxy' product and a cylindrical product.
Your teachers will be looking for - An Orthographic - with an Elevation, End Elevation and a Plan (Remember your guidelines and outlines) , at least 1 One point perspective /3D sketch and your Presentation skills.
We want you to produce a full page of sketches to show your product and your skills.
Attach an image of your work to your Google Classroom - We look forward to seeing what you produce.
Orthographic sketching is used in all of the technical subjects and it is important to understand how they work and how to sketch in this format.
Orthographic sketching means drawing a 3 dimensional object in 2D. There are 3 main views used in orthographic drawing - Front view known as the Elevation, Side view known as the End Elevation and the top view known as the Plan.
Orthographics are used in construction, manufacture and design industries. Plumbers, electricians, joiners, kitchen and bathroom designers and fitters, architects, interior designers, product designers and engineers to name a few,all use Orthographics.
Follow along with the videos, use whatever materials you have, be creative and enjoy building on your drawing and communication skills.
Upload a picture of your work in your google classroom assignments. I look forward to seeing your work
This week we will be improving upon our 1 point perspective drawing skills from last week creating perspective drawing of different shapes and cylindrical objects.
It is too easy to want our designs to have straight edges for easier sketching, Understanding how to sketch products with curves and slanted lines gives us more scope for designing and communicating our design concepts.
Follow the videos and practice your sketching skills. Use whatever materials you have, be creative and enjoy building on your sketching and communication skills.
Attach a photograph of your work in your assignments. I look forward to seeing what you produce.
This week we will be reminding ourselves of our 1 point perspective drawing skills.
One point perspective is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, drawing towards a single ‘vanishing point’ on the horizon line. It is a way of drawing objects that look three-dimensional and realistic. It is a popular drawing method with architects, illustrators and designers.
Follow the video and practice your 1 point perspective drawing. Use whatever materials you have, be creative and enjoy building on your drawing and communication skills.
Attach your work into your S1 Design and Technology Classroom
