Assembly Expectations

We want assemblies to be a time of celebration, positivity, and sharing. In order for this to happen, we need a high level of engagement and respect from our students and staff.

The expectations on students are:

• Enter assemblies in an orderly way, find seats, sit down.

• Stand/sit silently for karakia, anthem and songs.

• Listen silently to messages from speakers, certificate announcements etc.

• Show full attention, engage in messages when appropriate.

• Applaud/cheer for performances and certificate winners.

The expectations on teachers are:

• Active monitoring of students in their immediate area. (supported by learning assistants)

• Positive praise/recognition of good assembly manners. (use reward systems where necessary)

• Target undesirable behaviours quickly and redirect students.

• Plan ahead - seat students in smart places, near suitable peers etc.
