Course Description:
Delving beyond grit and growth mindset , and encompassing more than the formal curriculum, 'Developing Tenacity' draws on the co-authors research at the University of Winchester's Centre for Real-World Learning to offer a powerful synthesis of what it takes for learners to persevere when confronted with challenges. Readers will learn a four step process to cultivate the capabilities of their students. These steps include: 1. Understanding Capabilities 2. Establish the Classroom Environment 3. Managing the Learning 4. Build Learner Engagement and Commitment to the Capability. You will also identify the four habits of tenacity and gain a dozen teaching and learning methods for developing these habits.
My goal of this book study is to offer a wealth of teaching and learning methods that are accompanied by practical strategies on how to embed tenacity more systematically into your curriculum and classroom environment, providing small stimuli for lesson planning and for the "drip- feeding" of everyday activities which boost learners' agency and self-efficacy.
Suitable for all teachers and school leaders in both primary and secondary settings who want to instill a strong sense of tenacity in all your students, not just those whom are identified as talented and gifted, as they approach learning.
