What to Look Forward to in Fall
By: Haylee Downing
The weather is finally hitting the 50s and 60s, and that warm, comforting feeling of fall is growing near. Arguably the best season is right around the corner, so what are some things that can get us in that spirit?
First off, football season has begun. While football may not be for everyone, it certainly is a staple in the autumn season. Whether it’s going to school games or watching the NFL, you can certainly make the most of spending time with your friends and family. Also consider making some great treats to go along with this. All of your favorite coffee places are releasing their fall menu items, so grab your favorite pumpkin drink, pumpkin bars, and other sweet items to enjoy when you’re watching a game. If you seriously can’t stand watching football, I suggest getting out and going to other games like soccer and volleyball to show your support.
The two biggest dress up events are also coming up: Homecoming and Halloween. Hoco is on September 20, and the week of will be full of dress-up, parades, football, and so much more fun. Next month, Halloween will make its way into our households. In Davenport, the old Party City building is being converted into a Spirit Halloween, so be sure to go get your costumes there soon. There have also been releases of new horror movies such as The Black Phone 2, The Strangers: Chapter 2, and Him.
Fall is definitely one of the best seasons. There are so many great things to look forward to that can put us in great spirits. I recommend cozying up on the couch, turning on the game, and testing out Dairy Queen’s returning Pumpkin Pie Blizzard to help you settle in to autumn.
Driving for Success

The Girls Golf Team has had a very successful season. The team won their golf meet on September 11, and there were a lot of achievements made throughout the match. Orion had an overall score of 173, which was 23 points more that their opponent, St. Bede, and the last qualifying team, Bureau Valley, who had actually gained a 44-point average. Lilly Stone and Evelyn Wilbur were the highlights of this match, being able to uphold their overall score of 42 and 40.
This organization has grown so much as a team and also growing as better individuals, the Orion Girls Golf team is not done yet with many more meets ahead of them. These girls will dominate more of their competition in a conference match on Wednesday, September 17th. Come out to support your local golf team!
Protests in the Capital of Nepal Throw Nation into Chaos
By: Andan Nguyen
On Monday, September 8th, 2025 mass demonstrations began in the Nepali Capital of Kathmandu, and other major cities around the south Asian nation. Protests made a turn for the worst turning into mass riots.
What caused the protests?
The people protested against the nation's Social Media Ban. 26 social media platforms were officially banned on September 4th which include Twitter, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram.
The ban was an attempt to censor the people and the public. In 2024 the Nepali Parliament and Prime Minister put a plan to control and regulate the nation's online space.
The timeline of events
Monday, September 8th:
The first day of the protests, police crackdowns ended with 19 people killed with dozens injured in the fighting. Security forces were ordered to fire rubber bullets but they shot real bullets. Curfews are put in place.
Tuesday, September 9th:
The military has been deployed to tame the unrest. 4 time Prime Minister KP Sharma Ali, former communist party leader, resigned his position as the nation's prime minister. The Nepali Parliament was stormed by rioters which then lit the building on fire. Hundreds of prisoners have been escaping or being released in droves amidst the chaos.
Wednesday, September 10th
The skies of the city turn black as the security headquarters, government offices, and homes of politicians burn. The Prime Minister's office and Supreme Court are set on fire. The streets are dangerous as people, police, military, and criminals fight all throughout the city. 13,000 prisoners have escaped since Monday making the streets more dangerous.
Thursday, September 11th
The death toll has reached 25, over 600 people have been injured. The nation's president meets with protest figures, and a temporary government has been pulled together. Out of 30,000 incarcerated people in the nation, 15,000 total prisoners have escaped and over 60,000 military personnel have been deployed to crackdown and capture the escapees. Nepal’s borders and the untouched prisons remain on lockdown to avoid any more escapees.
Latest updates
As of today, Friday, September 12th, the death toll has risen drastically, as officials have 51 confirmed deaths. Over 1300 people are injured and are currently being hospitalized, so far hundreds of the escaped convicts have been recaptured but 12500 prisoners remain active and on the loose.
The situation still remains volatile and the nation will be in this state of destruction for weeks or possible months to come. Worldwide Japan and France are in a state of political infighting as well. After all the chaos that has gone on this week, especially in Nepal, it is a time to pray and send wishes to the millions of people being affected by events worldwide.
