OHS Student Council Valentine's Day Sale
By: Sadie Hessler
This past week, Student Council had a Valentines day sale where they sold treats and soda during lunches. If you wish to purchase one of these ‘candy grams’, you would go up to the table and pick out which item you wanted to purchase for anyone of your choice. They were selling Orange Crush, Dr. Pepper, and various Little Debbie treats. You then got a note you could write on and then they would be delivered at the end of the week. This was a very good and fun fundraiser that the student council put on. This was a fundraiser for the school's student council. President Abi Kayser said, “The Valentine's candy grams were a great idea. It was nice to have help from other student council members at lunch and in study halls. This was overall a very fun and easy fundraiser that many enjoyed.”
Frozen 3
By: Bailee Ward
While Frozen is a very popular movie series, Disney has just announced that Frozen 3 is coming out November 24, 2027. To expect more indepth views of Elsa’s powers, with all the voice actors we love who voice Anna, Elsa and many many more, also diving more into Anna’s life and possibly Anna and Kristoff’s wedding! In the works of Frozen 3 they also confirmed that Frozen 4 is on the way too as a two part story.
every opponent in their way. However, in the championship game, they faced their hardest opponent yet: Canada. The game that determined their place on the podium was not an easy one. The US scored their first goal within the first 6 minutes, taking an early lead. They were able to contain their lead throughout the first period and the majority of the second, until Canada got one within the last 2 minutes of the second period. Both teams fought hard for a goal in the third, hoping to break the tie; however, both teams were unsuccessful in their attempts. In the 3 on 3 overtime, Jack Hughes shot the game-winning shot at 1:41, determining the final score of 2-1 USA.
Shockingly, the exact same scenario occurred with the women’s hockey championship. Canada scored their first goal within the first minute in the second period. USA fought hard, but were unable to finally tie it up until the last 2 minutes in the third period, just in time. In overtime, USA won 2-1, scoring the decisive goal at 4:07. This gold medal was also the USA women’s third, with their last win having been in 2018.
To say that the men's and women's teams had a large audience is an understatement. Many of our own students kept up to date on the U.S. hockey teams' successes; Macie Niemier said, "Both the men’s and women’s teams had very intense, close games that kept me on the edge of my seat while watching. The teams also achieved some insane achievements along the way that made me extremely proud of how far American hockey has come."
Although we have to wait four more years to watch them compete in the 2030 Olympics, it certainly won't be a game to miss; until then, you can watch your favorite players compete in their NHL seasons, ending in April.

On February 27, 2026 Junior Executive Council held a meeting to discuss the progress with prom planning. The meeting started at 7:30am. There were 9 members present, and Mrs. Stropes and Ms. Amador were there as supervisors. The group discussed whether there should be cookies and drinks, or just drinks, and the group decided on just having the pop and lemonade. With the theme being Rio, the group discussed what the decorations should be and how the rooms should look. For anyone who hasn’t watched "Rio", the movie is set in Rio de Janeiro, during the time of Carnaval. The movie is very colorful and vibrant, which is the type of mood the group is going for. The group plans to have one or two more meetings before spring break.

The 79th British Academy Film Awards, known as the BAFTAs, were held on February 22, 2026, honoring some of the best films of 2026, British and internationally made. Some of the most prominent awards were as follows:
Best Film: One Battle After Another
Best Director: Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another
Best Leading Actor: Robert Aramayo for I Swear
Best Leading Actress: Jessie Buckley for Hamnet
Best Supporting Actor: Sean Penn for One Battle After Another
Best Supporting Actress: Wunmi Mosaku for Sinners
While the ceremony was meant to celebrate the films of 2025, much of the attention of the night fell on John Davidson, a notable Tourette syndrome activist, who, during the ceremony, yelled out a clear racial slur while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were onstage presenting an award. The event caused worldwide controversy, especially as many have questioned as to why Davidson was sat close to the event’s microphones and why the BBC didn’t censor the slur, even though they edited out a certain part of Akinola Davies Jr’s speech that focused on the Free Palestine movement.
In the aftermath, the BBC launched an investigation into the incident and apologized. John Davidson also released a public apology the day after the ceremony in which he expressed how “upset and distraught” he was. The BAFTAs are now available for streaming on BBCIplayer, with the slur censored.
Online, the public is heavily divided over the issue. Tourettes is a serious issue and the fact that it causes unwanted vocal sounds has led to many being sympathetic towards Davidson, but the fact that it was a racial slur that was uttered, as well as a a reported homophobic slur towards presenter Alan Cumming
that was edited out, has understandably led to outrage among many.
Ultimately, a majority of the criticism landed on the BBC for failing to censor the slur, especially because the broadcast was delayed and could have been cut.
