Starting Off the Season with a Win

Orion Volleyball played Erie-Prophetstown this past Monday and Ridgewood on Thursday. The team's season opener was phenomenal with it being 25-15 the first set and 25-19 the second set. The team was on fire with great passes, kills, and blocks. Not only did the varsity win their game, but the freshmen team ended the night with a win. Our stat leaders for the Erie-Prophetstown game are Elli Mielke with six kills, Ellie Knupp with five kills, and Claire Haars with four kills. Kendyl Filler led with ten digs, and Claire Haars led with nine assists. The next game is on Tuesday, and it’s the first home game against Sherrard. The Freshmen game starts at 5:00pm, JV at 6:00pm, and Varsity at 7:00pm.
FCA Updates

Fellowship Of Christian Athletes kicked off last August 18th and had their second meeting this last Tuesday. They meet every Tuesday at 7:15 AM to have breakfast together and get into the word. This last Tuesday was led by Leo Nedved, who talked about Unity. He dove into Unity using multiple Bible Verses to explain his point. Sadie Appel provided breakfast for everyone this week. Pastor Jeremiah Bullock leads for the high school along with Jeff Bernhardt. The leadership team consists of: Gracie Pokrajac, Sadie Appel, Nona Schofield, Leo Nedved, Owen Bollinger, Evelyn Wilbur, Roman Schmeider, Luke Appel, Connor Ghering, and Gillian Schmieder. Here is an opinion on how the year is going from one of our leaders, Sadie Appel: “I think it’s going good, especially for how many seniors we lost last year. I feel like everyone always has fun while also learning about the Lord.”
Girls Golf Meet Outcomes

Girls golf had three meets this week, starting on Tuesday when they played 9 holes at Mendota, IL. The team got first place out of four teams. Lilly Stone scored a 45 and had the number one score of the day. On Wednesday the team got out of school early to head to a 18 hole tournament at Midland in Kewanee, IL. There were 128 players at this meet, boys and girls included. The girls got third out of eight teams. Evelyn Wilbur had the second best score out of 47 girls with a 87 and Lilly Stone had the 8th best score with a 92. They both received medals from the hosting team for getting in the top ten. On Thursday the girls played at Valley View and got second place by one stroke! Evelyn Wilbur got the second best score with a 42. Overall, the girls had a good week with good outcomes.
Friday Night Football Game

The Mendota Trojans started their football season with a 23–14 win over the Orion Chargers on Friday night in Orion.
Mendota had a strong running game throughout the night, finishing with 230 rushing yards and 37 passing yards. Their ability to consistently move the ball helped them stay in control of the game and hold off Orion.
The Chargers scored 14 points, but Mendota’s defense came up with important stops when they needed them. The Trojans finished with a nine-point win and started their season 1–0.
For Orion, this game was also the start of a new era with head Coach Matt McClean. Even though the Chargers lost their first game, there are still plenty of reasons for the team to be excited about the season.
Even though Orion started the season with a loss, the Chargers have a lot of football left to play. With several returning starters and a strong group of players, Orion will look to improve and bounce back in the games ahead.
