Farmworker Justice Movements focuses on the strategies, histories, structures, victories, struggles, and current campaigns of the major organizations that fight for farmworkers' rights. It explores how these organizations both change and are changed by national and international policy, agribusiness, consumer involvement, and large-scale sociopolitical trends. The 5 major organizations include: Coalition of Immokalee Workers, United Farm Workers, PCUN, Migrant Justice, and FLOC.
Experiential learning trips include visits to Pineros y Campesinos Unidos Noroeste, Oregon State Capitol, Anahuac Farm, and PCUN archives at University of Oregon. See the course Facebook page for documentation of trips.
The existing scholarly literature on the successes and challenges faced by farmworker justice organizations are also explored.
