To develop key skills that prove your ability in performing arts, such as reproducing repertoire or responding to stimuli.
To understand the processes that underpins effective ways of working in the performing arts, such as development of ideas, rehearsal and performance.
To develop knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, processes and attitudes in the sector, such as roles, responsibilities, performance disciplines and styles.
To develop physical, technical and expressive skills through which they are able to communicate choreographic intention and develop their individual qualities and attitudes as performers, including personal management and communication.
In Years 10 and 11 students will complete the following 3 components:
Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts
Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts
Component 3: Responding to a Brief
To investigate how professional work is created and show understanding of the skills, techniques and approaches used to create them.
To develop and apply skills and techniques in dance, reviewing progress.
To consider how practitioners adapt their skills for different contexts and put this into practice in a performance.
To understand how to respond to a brief, select and apply skills learnt and developed and evaluate the process and outcome.
Components 1 and 2 are internally assessed through controlled assessment, with a mixture of written and practical work. Component 3 includes a creation and performance in a group, and 3 written exams based on skills, ideas and evaluation of the performance.
Dance is both physical and expressive and uses movement symbolically as a fundamental form of human expression. It is both empowering and powerful as a form of non-verbal communication.
The intrinsic value of dance is the development of creative, imaginative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacities.
This course is ideal for students who are passionate about dance and enjoy both performing and choreographing. Students will also develop skills in the critical appreciation of professional works and be able to interpret the choreographic intentions preparing them for a career in dance.
You need to have some experience and self-discipline to be able to achieve in this course.
BTEC Dance requires you to be confident in performing as a solo dancer as well as in small groups. It also requires you to be analytical in your understanding of how dances are created.
