Our Lady's careers curriculum is grounded in the Gatsby Benchmarks, which are eight benchmarks which serve as a framework for improvement in careers provision.
The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:
A stable careers programme
Learning from career and labour market information
Addressing the needs of each pupil
Linking curriculum learning to careers
Encounters with employers and employees
Experiences of workplaces
Encounters with further and higher education
Personal guidance
In addition to meeting the Gatsby benchmarks, we also utilises the CDI Framework, which clarifies the skills, knowledge and attitudes that our careers curriculum seeks to develop, in order for our learners to have positive careers. The CDI Framework outlines the learning outcomes that our career development programme is aiming to bring about.
All pupils at Our Lady’s have access to impartial careers information, advice, and guidance from a fully qualified careers adviser. Every pupil will receive at least one individual careers guidance appointment before the end of Year 11. In most cases, pupils will also have the opportunity to meet with the adviser in both Year 10 and Year 11. Each appointment typically lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour, providing tailored support to help pupils make informed decisions about their future pathways. In addition, small group sessions are offered in Key Stage 3 to introduce pupils to careers education and help them begin exploring future options at an earlier stage.
