Course & Credit Requirements for Graduation

Owen J. Roberts High School’s requirements for graduation are based on criteria as determined by the Owen J. Roberts School Board and the Pennsylvania school code. To be graduated from OJRHS, students must complete the following requirements:

24 total credits required:

  • Four years (4.0 credits) of English

  • Three years (3.0 credits) of mathematics

  • Three years (3.0 credits) of science from 3 of 4 areas (earth, biology, chemistry, physics)

  • Three years (3.0 credits) of social studies

  • Four years (1.6 credits minimum) of physical education. Physical education must be taken every semester. Transfer students must take one physical education course each semester they attend OJRHS. If a transfer student has failed a physical education course prior to entering OJRHS they must remediate that course.

  • Two health classes (0.8 credits)

  • A minimum of 8.6 elective credits


College Entrance Requirements:

  • It should be understood that the requirements for graduation and those for college entrance (including World Languages) may be quite different. Students planning to attend college should consult their school counselor for the scheduling of appropriate courses.


Keystone Exams:

Beginning with the class of 2023, students will need to meet one of the following criteria in order to graduate:

  • Score Proficient or Advanced on each Keystone Exam (Algebra 1, Literature, and Biology).

  • Earn a satisfactory composite score (4452) across the three Keystone Exams, with a Proficient score on at least one exam and no less than Basic on the remaining two exams.

  • Earn a passing grade on the course associated with each Keystone Exam, and pass the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) or the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) assessment in an approved Career and Technical Education concentration.

  • Earn a passing grade on the courses associated with each Keystone Exam, and satisfactorily complete one of the following: an alternative assessment: SAT- score of 1010, PSAT- score of 970, ACT- score of 21, ASVAB, Gold Level ACT WorkKeys, advanced coursework (AP, IB, concurrent enrollment courses), pre-apprenticeship, or acceptance in a 4-year nonprofit institution of higher education for college-level coursework.

  • Earn a passing grade on the courses associated with each Keystone Exam, and demonstrate readiness for postsecondary engagement through three pieces of evidence from the student’s career portfolio aligned to the student goals and career plan. Examples of evidence will include ACT WorkKeys, SAT Subject Tests, AP, IB and concurrent coursework, higher education acceptance, community learning project, completion of an internship, externship, or co-op or full-time employment.
