Building A Bridge Between School & Home Using ParentSquare

While I have always felt collaboration between home and school is important, this year has made me look at it even more closely. This year I sent my first child to Kindergarten. It has been a big transition for all of us. I struggled knowing that I could check in with my sitter to see how her day was going at anytime, to now relying on the teacher to provide information as to how my child is spending their day. As a former teacher, I know that my child is safe and right where she should be, as a mom, I want to know all about her day. ParentSquare has helped to bridge that gap. My daughter's teacher uses it frequently and it has allowed me an opportunity to stay involved in her learning, as well as offer any support from home that will help to reinforce what is happening in the classroom. Below I am sharing a few tips and tricks that can be helpful if you are looking for ways to keep your families informed and involved in their children's learning.

With ParentSquare it now quick and easy to communicate directly with your student's families. Within the app, or website, you have the ability to post within your class. This is a wonderful opportunity to share reminders, successes, or pictures of students learning within the classroom. This is a great way to invite parents into your classroom, without them being physically there.

Coming soon, ParentSquare will also allow you to directly chat with families. This is a feature I have used a few times already this year with my daughter's teacher. It has been a great way to easily communicate, and ask clarifying questions as they arise. I simply type out my message and the teacher was able to respond at a time that worked well for her. Because I have the app installed on my phone, I receive notifications of any posts or communication coming from the school.

This allows you to share with families the times that you are available to communicate, as well as the other times they may not receive an immediate response. As a parent, if I am looking to direct message a teacher outside of their set office hours, I will receive a notification prior to sending my message. This notification will alert me that my child's teacher is not currently hosting office hours, and it may take longer to receive a response. I then have the option to continue sending my message or to cancel.
