Homework is given in the form of a termly inquiry. Within the length of the term, children use the knowledge harvest from the beginning of the term (to be photocopied, handed out and posted on Google Classroom), to create a project of their choice about their class Central Idea. Teachers can schedule drop in sessions to support the children with ideas once a week, however the children can take the inquiry in any way they see fit and produce work in any format that suits them (Google Classroom, art, written, model making etc.).
Spellings for the term are sent home with a class newsletter on the first day of every term (divided into weeks), and a copy is posted on the academy website. Spelling tests take the form of a dictation exercise each week. On top of this, children are to focus on developing their confidence in times tables or number bonds through https://ttrockstars.com/ or https://play.numbots.com/#/intro.
Home reader books (kept in the classrooms) are sent home regularly with a reading record book which serves as a dialogue with parents. Whilst LSAs generally are given responsibility for issuing and collecting in home readers, it is the responsibility of the class teacher to speak to parents if books are not returned in order to ensure that books are either returned or paid for.
