This year, with our link school in Malawi, we shared stories and letters between the schools.
We knew from previous discussion and from photos of learning that were shared with us, that the school do not have a lot of resources. We knew that to make written communication work and to support Sele school, we would send writing materials to the school.
Here is the headteacher - Grace Mosa - and some pupils receiving the boxes we sent to Sele School full of writing books, pencils, sharpeners, coluring pencils, water bottles and tennis balls.
We were delighted that all pupils could receive these to enhance their learning and also support communication between our two schools.
We wrote letters to Sele school and took a trip to the post office to post them!
The package took a couple of weeks to arrive! We also send a copy of one of our favourite tales - The Three Little Pigs - for the pupils to enjoy.
We loved to receive letters from Sele school and we learned a lot about the pupils and their aspirations. We learned about the food that pupils eat and the crops that their families grow. We were able to see and learn about what is the same and different between our lives in Kent, England and Salima, Malawi.
Here is a video response, answering our questions shared.
As we shared one of our favourite tales, The Three Little Pigs, with Sele school, we also wanted to write our version of traditional tales to send to them too, and in return receive stories back. We thought the best way for this for both schools was via video, as pupils would have an opportunity to practice their communication skills.
This was an enjoyable experience. For our pupils, the challenge was to retell a traditional story, thinking about the language they are using so someone with a lower level of understanding of English could still enjoy it.
Below is one of our Year 3 pupils retelling the Three Billy Goats Gruff which we shared with Sele School.
