The PYP Exhibition is an opportunity where Year 6 pupils choose an area of real-life learning which they are passionate about, and work on a project as a group. Their work is then presented in an exhibiton style finale.
Pupils create agreements together at the start of the process for what they will all need to do in order to be successful. It is an opportunity for them to reflect as learners and set goals for themselves.
Our pupils chose themes which link to the Sustainable Development Goals. For the first time this year, we linked with 3 other local schools for all pupils to present their work to each other. Our school also had a separate event for our community where the exhibition was set up in our school hall to browse.
Below is a summary of what each group worked on.
This group produced an exhibition project on Economics. They looked at the history of the slave trade, how this affected economics, and the importance of Economics in the present day.
Listen to their podcast linked to hear what they would like people to take away from their exhibition.
This group looked at gender equality, in particular in the fashion industry.
They looked at the history of gender equality, how it has improved in recent years and what more can still be done.
This group looked at the issue of recycling and are companies and people doing enough yet?
This group looked at the treatment of people around and world and how it differs between countries and the type of government a country has.
The focus of this group was on racism, racism in history and modern day and what more can be done to tackle it and educate people.
Water is a focus that we had with our link school, and this group looked at the importance of clean water, the difference in access to clean water around the world and what more can be done to improve access for those without.
Pupil Voice:
We used our creative skills by thinking of different ways to solve the waste problem in the world. I think as a learner I became braver, being able to talk and relate with people I have never met before at the Exhibition.
I learnt that I can’t always have no arguments with anybody and the important thing is how we grow from those arguments. I found working with others quite challenging as I like to be independent and do all my work by myself. I enjoyed being creative and challenging myself with different kinds of art.
