Spanish is the language which we deliver at OPA for our modern foreign language.
It is important that we start this language learning early with pupils, in particular through songs and rhymes.
Year 1 taught the whole school 'Como Estas' which demonstrates leading language learning outside of the classroom and beyond the curriculum.
Year 1 first sang the song in assembly (video 1 below), and then taught the song and actions to the school (video 2).

Storytelling through Spanish
The best way to learn a language can be through rhymes, songs and storytelling due to the repetition of phrases and pupils making links to language they already know.
Below, you can watch Year 4 retell the story of The Enormous Turnip in Spanish to the school. All pupils join in with the shared repeated phrases as you can hear in the second video.
Whole school assemblies (whether for Spanish or something else) always finish with a challenge for pupils, and you can see one from the end of a Spanish Assembly below. That pupils leave and take action; they make a change in their day, and in this instance, it's to use the Spanish language regularly in informal situations so it becomes easier and part of their daily norm at school.
