Who is the Triune God?

What has God revealed to human beings about God's self? What kind of God is God? Why is God worthy of worship?

What makes God worthy of our worship?

1. God creates out of delight rather than spite.

2. God is relationally and emotionally moved by creation.

3. God enters a covenant with humanity.

4. God loves.

5. God redeems/saves.

6. God is faithful.

7. God is all-wise.

8. God restores.

What is the Trinity, and why?

The doctrine of the Trinity can be summarized as: 

1. God is three persons.

2. Each person is fully God.

3. There is one God.

While Christians are unable to penetrate the being of God (essence), we are able to observe God's activities (energies). Therefore, we can infer who God is by what God does.

It took the church nearly four hundred years to settle on the doctrine of the Trinity. This implies that the process of theologizing is a long and careful process of poring over Scripture in reflection of our lived experience with God in the community.

Only God can save. If the Father saves, and the Son saves, and the Holy Spirit saves, then the Father, the Son, and the Son are each God (Frank Macchia).

Scripture Passages that point to the reality of the Triune God: Gen 1:26; Mt 3:16-17; Rom 11:36; Mt 28:18-20; Jn 1:1-3; Acts 2:32-33; 1 Pet 1:1-2.

The Trinity was present in Jesus' conception, baptism, ministry, transfiguration, death, resurrection, and Pentecost.

Who is God the Father?

• Is God male? Why do we call God "Father," and not "Mother"?

• Our Heavenly Father holds onto us at all costs.

• God created humans as his image-bearers.

• Israel was called to be the image of the invisible God.

• Jesus perfectly imaged/revealed God. 

• Humans imperfectly image/reveal God.

• Jesus as the God-man is 100% divine and 100% human.

• Jesus, not the Bible, is the Logos of God.

• The gospel is that Jesus is the Word of God.
