RESEARCH and The Tree Map of your Explorer
In this investigation, your team will discover much about the men you have
chosen to present before the New World Historical Society. The director and
his board of trustees are looking for specific information regarding the
achievements of your explorer throughout his life. In order to organize
your findings, you will build a Tree Map to show the chronological order of your explorers life.
Your team must answer the following questions (which are related to the
categories on your Tree Map) in order to understand the life and
contributions of the explorer you have chosen.
1.) Birthplace
Where and when was your explorer born?
2.) Schooling
Where and when did your explorer go to school or receive training?
3.) Military or Royal affiliation
Was your explorer in the military or was he royalty? Investigate his situation.
4.) Explorer's family life
Who were members of your explorer's family? What was his family life like?
5.) Explorer's sponsor/Funding situation/Funding difficulties
Who paid for your explorer's expedition? What country sponsored (paid for/ supported) his voyage?
What kind problems did your explorer have in finding someone to pay for his expedition?
6.) Importance of their expedition
Why did your explorer go on this expedition?
What was so important about it?
Had anyone tried a similar voyage before him?
7.) Travel routes taken
What was your explorer's expedition like? What routes did he take?
What continents did he cross?
8.) Significant events on expedition
What important occurrences occurred during this journey?
9.) Explorer's demise
When did your explorer die? Did he survive his journey? If not, what happened?
