Miss Bray
We have ended the school year on another busy half term with lots of enrichment opportunities across the school including trips to Moors Valley, Rockbourne, Marwell, London, the Isle of Wight and the Y5/6 production. The highlight of the year for me was sports day followed by Oakfest. It had such a community feel and was a great opportunity for us all to have some fun together.
We have said many goodbyes this year but also welcomed many new faces. We wish all those moving on, both adults and children, the very best and hope that some of our Y6 children will come back and see us to let us know how they are getting on.
The year has ended with some more great news for the school as we have been awarded the Gold School Games Mark
award for our commitment and engagement in the School Games for 2023/24. Lets see if we can make it three in a row!
I am really looking forward to working with the new team in September and sharing our exciting plans to make Oakfield even better.
Have a lovely summer break, we look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it on Tuesday, 3 September at 3.00pm to look around the newly set up classrooms ready to start on Wednesday, 4 September.
Matilda and Indigo wrote letters to Sir David Attenborough inviting him to visit Oakfield and show him how much we love and care for nature. While he wasn't able to visit us, the girls did receive a handwritten letter and were in the Echo!
Well done everyone that has done some planting this year! We have been awarded Level 3 by The Royal Horticultural Society for our efforts in using planet friendly approaches and growing a variety of plants.
We will be taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge again this year. Visit Totton library to sign up to their Marvellous Makers Challenge. Read six books to receive a medal and certificate. Don't forget to take a photo and send it to dlailey@oakfield.academy so that we can add it to our school totaliser.
We have set ourselves a whole school challenge to read 1000 books!
PTA updates
A huge thank you to the PTA who, while small in numbers, have continued to raise money for the school. The children have enjoyed using the newly refurbished pond area and our new picnic benches have arrived. Freezepop Fridays have been popular over the last few weeks of term and there are lots of plans in the pipeline for next year.
This week Year 5 started swimming lessons. In Maths Year 1 have been learning about halves and Year 3 spotted a stag beetle at OWL! Year 2 have been learning about the Sikh wedding ceremony called Anand Karaj in RE.
Well done everyone that has done some planting this year with Mrs Isaac. We have been awarded Level 3 by the RHS for our efforts in using planet friendly approaches and growing a variety of plants.

Year 4 looked at Geometric motifs in their art lesson this week and Year 1 sampled fruit and sandwiches in DT. Year R had a trip to Moors Valley and also held a Teddy Bear’s picnic for September starters. Some of our school councillors did a lunchtime litter pick with Miss Bray.
There’s also been lots of sporting activity with a Year 3/4 cricket event, the Hampshire School Games and our Sports Day. Thanks to everyone who came today to support the event and Oakfest!

This week we have had our new Year Rs attend their last stay and play before September. Elsewhere Year 2 have been learning about tally charts and also used the iPads to turn their portraits into royal portraits.

Don’t forget we close for the summer holidays at midday on Tuesday. All children must be collected at this time. If your child is going home with someone different please let us know in the office. No meals will be available so please do not order a school lunch for that day.
Yesterday Year 6 had a great trip to London with Miss Bray and Mr Cooke. Elsewhere in school children have been enjoying their last couple of days in class.
Today we said goodbye to our Year 6s – good luck to them all at their new schools!
Have a fantastic summer holiday! We’ll see the children back in school on Wednesday 4th September.
YR hosted a teddy bears picnic for the new year Rs and did an amazing job serving them drinks and cakes, and telling them a story. They enjoyed their trip to Moors Valley and wrote about their favourite memory. They worked together to build a fantastic obstacle course and had fun on a hot afternoon!
Y1 played human table football - the children were making each other move with left and right instructions. What a great way to learn directions.! They have also learned about healthy food combinations. They chose they our own fruits to make a fruit salad, used ScratchJnr to create a sprite and background and by the end of the lesson they could all add code to make thier sprite move. Some of the children could even add speech and change the sizes of their sprite! OWL sessions have seen lots of bug hunting and exploring to see which insects we have in the woodland.
Y2 started the half term learning about the Sikh wedding ceremony called Anand Karaj. They explored different weddings and had a go at writing friendship promises. In D.T. they explored machines and mechanisms making their own slider mechanism. In PSHE they learned all about the human life cycle and how we start life as a baby before growing and changing into an adult. They also talked about the changes that happen as we become an elderly adult. History was all about kings and queens and as part of Art the children looked at royal portraits. They spent an afternoon embracing their inner kings and queens and sketched their royal poses in their sketchbooks.
Y3 had fun pond dipping and seeing all the fascinating creatures we have in the pond, they have also shown resilience and determination when moving on to the next stage of fire lighting. In Art they completed ink paint prints using leaves and worked in groups to produce a newspaper front cover following sports day.
Y4 looked at Geometric motifs in their art lesson and created some amazing work. It was really tricky working with a compass but they all managed it and really helped each other too. There was more fun in maths recapping division using m&m's! The children were allowed to eat one each time they solved a question! There has also been lots of time spent in the allotment this half term.
Y5 took part in an online road safety workshop. The children were amazing at thinking of risks as pedestrians and cyclists and identifying ways to keep safe! A joint PSHE lesson with Y6 focused on ‘Choosing the right words!’. They talked about Protected Characteristics and how they could rephrase some of the lines from the poem which can be derogatory. The children were sensible and had some great questions and comments. A game of handball saw the children work on strategy, spacial awareness and coordination and there was lots of progress and confidence building in swimming lessons. The children have also worked hard to put together the Y5/6 production which was amazing!

We had a great time at Sports Day with a mix of competitive and fun events. Romsey sports leaders were a fantastic help giving lots of encouragement to our children. This was followed by our very first Oakfest which was a lovely family occasion.
We were wowed by the talent at Oakfield during our Oakfield's Got Talent. We had singing, dancing, drumming, magic, comedians and more! The children were absolutely fantastic overcoming their nerves to perform in front of a large audience. Well done to all those who took part and our winners.
Y4 Camp Out
Year 5 and 6 had a great time at Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. The children did lots of activities including rock climbing, giant swing, archery, zip line, laser tag and buggy building.
