We watched time lapse videos of plants growing toward light. We made predictions about how plants used lights to grow.
We brainstormed how sunlight causes changes, such as: melts ice cream, you get sunburned, heats concrete or car seats, makes electricity. We looked at these patterns to see how sunlight changes plants.
We looked at how light affects solar toys and discussed connections to plants.
We discussed what we noticed, patterns, and cause/effect relationships. We determined that sunlight is energy for the plants. Plants absorbs sunlight's energy so that it can produce food (sugar). (Some students knew this, others did not.) Students thought the plant was like the solar cells, storing the energy to do work. We added that plants are PRODUCERS to our word wall.
