Isn't it incredible to think something as tiny as a pumpkin seed can grow into a large pumpkin or an acorn can grow into a mighty oak? Since we can't see plants growing bigger in real time, we brainstormed ways we could provide evidence that plants are growing.

Investigations
We wanted to gather evidence to show that plants are growing, so we looked closely at a radish seed and radish plant. We recorded observations. Then we weighed a radish seed and plant. The difference between the seed and radish plant is the amount of matter gained.
We compared our growth weights and realized that all the radishes gained different amounts of matter. We talked about why... Students thought it could be radishes were picked at different times, more/less rain, more/less sun, different nutrients.
When scientists are unsure about a claim, they use a process called argumentation. After collecting radish seed and plant data, we used the evidence to support our claim that plants get bigger as they grow.
Initial Model: Plant Matter
We created a model to explain our thinking about where plants get the matter it needs to grow.
