"In my artwork I attempted to depict climate change and the way the upper class ignores it. In this piece, you can see fire growing up the side of an industrial building, and creeping closer to burning the rich people on top. The other side of the building, I chose to take influences from green buildings in China(thanks Ellen!), to show that even though we’re attempting to be more sustainable by creating things like green buildings, ultimately, it may not be enough to save us."
"I’ve been doing art ever since I can remember. What started as arts and crafts matured into one of my most favorite interests.
The objective of this piece was to visually address a social issue."
"For this piece I choose to focus on the issue of stereotypes in our modern society; especially within the youth. I gravitated towards this idea because I've been really into teenage fantasy shows throughout quarantine. I wanted to contrast the lightheartedness of the Care Bears with the harsh reality of stereotypes and labels. I chose to ensemble the characters as a product to poke fun at the severity of the issue; Stereotypes are silly, so they don’t CareBears."
Mediums: Acrylic paint, wood panels, natural found materials
"My art tends to be focused on realism with an element of dreamscape-y-ness. I am personally interested in climate activism and is why I chose to do the subject matter of coral reefs. The foreground is composed of (not done!) corals and the background is going to be composed of people. When coral is colorful, that means it's experiencing stress due to heat. To show this, I put the coral in a hospital bed, The smiling people represent those who profit from the death of the coral reefs (tourism) while the people upset are those who depend on coral reefs for food/storm protection. I am using acrylic medium because it is synthetic and bright, like the brightness of the coral that is not naturally occurring and man-made (global warming). But also because acrylic was the easiest medium for me to convey this idea. (I’m still thinking if I want to include other material later on as well)"
"I thought I’d be able to get more done. The string stuff took/is taking a really long time.
The picture is an appropriation of Madonna and Child. Indigenous woman are those who are protecting the earth. They treat it like a child and want to continue allowing it to grow. I used markers and string to draw."
"This is the beginning of a piece on how even though “normal” is in the foreseeable future, things will still be different. This is an average scene on a NYC subway, but everyone is wearing masks, and the car is somewhat empty. I have always noticed how in their own world people often are when commuting, and I think that masks make it even harder to see what is going on in people’s lives. I might do a second draft depending on how this looks when I’m finished."
"Art is frankly a means to an end, the end being process. Simply making something is is a reward unto itself, regardless of how it comes out in the end. The project itself is a reflection of regular daily problems, based around old 15th-16th century Danse Macabre imagery associated with times of plague, a reflection of the problems that “plague” one’s life. Made in PaintTool SAI, the project is a combination of various brush types and text to comprise the image. The lack of a ribcage is wholly intentional, seeinga shte primary goal of the ribcage is less support and more protection, something that needed to be reflected here. The skeleton itself is sketched on, emphasizing the brittle nature of this last bastion from daily life."
"i didn't write any text in the panels but the comic is supposed to show how the girl fetishizes gay guys and wants a gay best friend, but then is rude to a wlw couple. In the final version, I will add pop culture references. I’ll probably ink and color my drawing digitally."
I started drawing when I realized I can create some things in my own, or change things that are already existing. So basically I started with “fan arts” I guess.
In my project I wanted go with refugees and what they are going through. I drew this with my trustful pencil. I wanted show this in one scene with taking the pieces together.
Artist Statement:
Most Marvel superheroes are white women and I'm tired of seeing them in the movies. It may be because I'm tired of seeing Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson. I think Storm is the one of the coolest superheroes in the MCU. She can control the weather, she is played by Hale Berry, and (learned while making this art piece) she is married to Black Panther. I had to choose her for my art assignment. I bought a bunch of Storm comics from a local comic shop and basically redrew the images onto the paper. I took inspiration from illuminated manuscripts about Bible fables and made a version that is modern and about another made up thing. I researched who Storm is and what she does for the words in the middle. I hope that others can see my love for Storm.
