Question: What does play mean to human civilization? Do we need it? Why?
This question was posed by Lizzy's group, and it left a deep impression on me since it reminded me of the toy that I was studying, the toy animals with wheels. During my research, I surprisingly found that wheels were not first invented for the usage of transportation, and those wheels on toy animals were created for the purpose of imitation (of those real animals). However, maybe later through the process where people were playing with these toy animals with wheels, they realized the wheels could be attached to real-life vehicles, and then invented vehicles with wheels as a new way of transportation. From this example, I think the importance and necessity of play to human civilization can be seen. Through play, no matter with what objects or toys, or even there are no specific objects or toys, inspirations and fireworks of new thoughts can be triggered, so that innovations that help push human civilization forward can come into being.
