As an international student, have you ever craved your hometown’s cuisine but couldn’t find it in any restaurants? So you tried to make the dish at home just to find out it was a total failure. That’s exactly how I feel.
As Taiwanese students, rarely do we need to cook when in Taiwan since the food is always accessible and affordable. In general, a full meal in Taiwan cost only 2 to 5 dollars. Many of us start to learn how to cook after landing in the US. Once in a while, we do miss the flavor of our country’s cuisine but end up cooking something totally different from our memories due to a lack of cooking experiences.
Learning basic Chinese cooking techniques by following the tips can help elevate the taste of the cuisine, making them more authentic. Also, step-by-step recipes guide us to make the perfect dishes.
Goal: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to apply the Chinese cooking techniques to cook at least one Chinese cuisine. Objectives:
Students can describe the tips and processes of 2 Chinese cooking techniques including stir-frying and deep-frying.
Students can apply 2 Chinese cooking techniques knowledge to cooking.
Students can cook at least one Chinese dish.
Learners’ cooking skills may vary: some are really good at cooking while some only know how to heat an instant meal. The difficulty of the topic depends on the learners’ current cooking skills, prior knowledge, and motivations to learn culinary.
It is very impressive that you can simplify this tricky thing that well. Although you only taught two dishes in this short learning module, I think those two represent Chinese food very well. You covered almost all the foundational Chinese cooking tips, like how to preheat your wok, the type of oil, and how to prepare the meat. For the UI design, all the interactive elements are used just in the right place and perfectly deliver the interactive block's purpose. I "show off" a few interactive blocks on my website to make my lesson cooler, but that interactive block is not necessary. So I think this rise module is significant in both design and content. I learned much from you in both the group project and this module. Nicely done Sherry, and huge thanks here!
