Work-Study
(budgeting & appointments)
Process Description / Outline
Federal Work Study (FWS) is a financial aid award that allows undergraduate and graduate students to work on-campus while completing their studies. Students are awarded FWS as part of their financial aid package based on their FAFSA
As part of the award, 75% of gross wages are supported by a government grant, while 25% of wages (plus fringe) are charged to the Department
In addition to a student’s award, Departments and Programs must have an available FWS budget to support the 25% cost
Policy Guidelines
Training Resources
Timesheets for Federal Work Study (FWS) students must be approved in order for them to be accurately charged to a department’s approved Federal Work Study Budget. If a FWS timesheet is not approved, it will be automatically charged to non-federal work study accounts
Access and Exception Requests
FWS budgets are allocated each year. Additional budget may be available on request. Email Joseph Wright, Senior Director, Fiscal Affairs for assistance
