Unit Objectives

By the end of this unit, students will be able to: 

• Evaluate sight-reading proficiency and intonation, outline a personal improvement plan, and describe strategies for building proficiency in sight-reading over a two-week period.

• Improvise melodies over tonic chords, sight-read rhythms and melodies with various beat note values in simple and compound time, and demonstrate further proficiency in rhythm sight-reading.

• Evaluate proficiency in transcribing melodies, outline a plan for improving dictation skills over two weeks, summarize strategies for building musical memory, and demonstrate further proficiency in melodic transcription and sight-singing.
