For this assignment, creating ideas that were not too similar with one another was definitely hard and took plenty of energy. I wanted to get some neat shots that I would not have achieved if I were to just use the areas around school, so I took this assignment down to the strip. It gave me a chance to explore the area of the strip that I had never been to before, even after living in Las Vegas for over ten years. I captured a few pictures along the way that were surprisingly hard to take. I had to readjust the exposure a few times to get it the way I wanted and by the time I did that, I had already lost the chance for the perfect shot. Overall, this assignment taught me greater components of a camera I never knew of before, which will definitely help with future assignments to come.
Going to the strip on a January night certainly gave me a few chills down my spine, whether it was from the cold weather or drunk people may never be known. However, through the experience I captured a few photos like the one to the left. This photo was quite easy to capture because I just needed to position my camera in one spot and wait for cars to pass. There is a sense of balance, movement, color, and emphasis drawn out by all the elements working together in this image. The balance between negative space and positive space works well with one another in giving emphasis to one spot. Also, movement is obvious from the cars passing by and their lights trailing behind where they were previously driving. This leads onto the color combination in this image, as it is not the simple white or red lights from a car. Since a vehicle that was advertising for a company past by, it give the photo more colors to add onto the ones that were already there. Therefore, I enjoy the composition of this photo from each element that was displayed.
This is another photo that was taken on my adventure down the strip. Truly the idea for this photo sprung from someone else taking an iconic picture inside one letter of a whole word. Since, the word "park" was displayed I took advantage of the more rounded letters (P and R) to put myself in. This only took a couple tries to accomplish without getting in the way of people walking around the strip. It incorporates a sense of form, balance, and space that gives a nice photo to view. Since it is constructed as a word, there is a form for each letter that has length, width, and depth. Also, the bright sign in the left hand corner gives a sense of balance that could have just been an empty space. Therefore, the space in this photo adds into the elements that work with one another.
This photo gives the idea of illuminating everyone's birthday because they are turning another year older. For this, I spun a flashlight around in a circle that was also above the balloon, so it would reflect off of the balloon to give some color. The shape of the balloon adds the element of form because it has length, width, and depth displayed. Not only that, but the shape created by the flashlight looks like a hat that is extremely bright with height and width. Which it is also balancing the space in the photo that would have been imbalance if nothing was above the balloon. Overall, there are very few elements in this photo yet simplicity gives viewers a nice change from other photos.
