Learning about fast shutter speed was truly interesting because I used to always use my phone's camera, which does not have any options to change its settings. This assignment taught how easy it was to get a neat looking picture that wasn't all too simple. Most of the time, when I would use my phone to capture a photo it would never turn out quite right, if there was any fast motion happening. As I come to figure out the way a camera works, I have started to understand the basic concepts of what it takes to have a well composed photo. Although this assignment wasn't the easiest at first, throughout the several days of shooting I realized how simple it really was. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed shooting pictures for this assignment because I was exploring new perspectives to shoot from and experimenting my level of creativity.
The inspiration for this photo was brought out by a gloomy day in Las Vegas. While it was raining, I wondered around the school for a short amount of time and puddles began to form on the campus of the school. So, I decided to grab my friend for a quick picture of her jumping into a giant puddle. This photo I captured has to be one of my favorites because it holds many qualities such as, emphasis, rhythm, shape, space, and color. The focal point of this entire pictures is obviously the large splash being created by a jump onto the ground. Not only does the splash make as a focal point, it also has a sense of rhythm and shape because of the motion being paused. The shape of the splash is not any normal one, as it is very organic and could probably never be recreated. In addition, the picture has a nice amount of space that generates the principle of balance. Therefore, I think this picture is straight to the point for this assignment and has great features.
Water seems to be a rather influential component for this assignment because of its aimless flow it can carry. The elements of shape, form, space, and color seem to really draw my eye's attention. Shape can be seen from the water bottle being crushed in the palm of a hand, which also gives a sense of texture with all of its crinkles. Another factor of form can be observed in the way that the water is coming out from the bottle and makes a random arrangement. I personally find the form of the water really interesting because it makes an odd curve before the cap of the bottle. Lastly, space and color adds to the overall composition as it shows a well-positioned framing.
This photo is definitely much more simpler than many of my other photos. However, the features of balance, emphasis, movement, line, space and color seem to harmonize with one another that captures my attention. Balance is displayed with the position of the camera and the framing around the people made from the pillars. This leads to the pair of people being the focal point and moves the eyes toward the line down the center. The center line guides the viewers attention slightly backwards because of the direction it is going. Space is well added into this photo from the plain areas surrounding the focal point. Furthermore, the touch of color from the clothes these people are wearing contribute to the overall image.
