Informal Portraiture

This assignment was pretty fun to shoot because I got to use my sister as my model, and she's someone who is comfortable in front of a camera so it wasn't hard to get her to pose or smile. It took two shoots to accumulate my 8 photos because the first time around I forgot to consider head space and some of the photos were a little more goofy than I had intended. Overall, it was a cool experience and made me want to do more portrait shots of people.

This is hands down my favorite shot because of the vibrancy that surrounds it, and the green color of the bush is bright but doesn't take away from the focal point. The background contrasts smoothly with the middle ground and allows it to stand out.

I like how this photo is composed of mostly geometric man-made shapes, but you can see some trees and bushes peeking out around my sister. The background is pretty bleak and neutral but her dress adds a fresh pop of color with the bright white fabric and pink flowers.

This photo makes good use of space and adds movement by guiding you from the simple foreground to the twisting branches in the background. The shadows are scattered around and don't get in the way of the subject, and the texture of the tree is visible. I really like how there seems to be a balance between the colors of nature and the artificial colors of her clothes.
