Throughout the course of world history, the Renaissance obtained a significant role in architectural and social development. Though those aspects are important to what became of the Renaissance, one of the most highlighted parts of the Renaissance was the art. The Renaissance was a very important period to art, from how art is portrayed to changing how the art looks. Artists during the Renaissance created a huge impact on the importance of art along with giving more of historic background. Each artist paints and or sculpts pieces that show human emotions, religious symbolism, and extreme detail, ultimately paving the way for art for many years to come.
Art during the Renaissance was important because it laid the foreground for introducing new artistic techniques and linking art with taboo subjects. Medieval art is beautiful and has many sublime qualities. However, the objective of medieval art was incredibly different from what modern art acquires. Medieval was not about realism, but about worshiping God and the wealthy/important people who commissioned the art, and about teaching the commissioner. Because of this, realism was not incredibly important; as long as the message was clear, that was ample. Renaissance artists, however, began to regularly study and work from people and natural things. Realism became a priority, along with studying in a more naturalistic, scientific way. The themes of work changed from being about religion to including Greek and Roman mythology and history, as well as other books, and eventually contemporary events. These studies continued to contribute to art throughout the following centuries. Realism and believability continued to be prioritized in art across the world for the next 500 years.
Along with introducing and spreading ideas through art, the Renaissance art period was a time when artists learned how to accurately render the world as we see it in two dimensions, and rediscovered how to do this in three dimensions. This is important because this was happening at the same time as revolutionary discoveries and works in math, physics, philosophy, and culture, which all seemed to converge on an idea of “enlightenment” or the progress/mastery of human rationality in the world.
The Renaissance art period was a very important time for the art world. Without the Renaissance, we wouldn’t have the techniques, ideas, and magnificent artistry that we have now. With the way Renaissance art was able to spread enlightened ideas and pave the way for modern art, Renaissance art is truly one of the most influential and beautiful periods of art history.

One of the most important aspects of a good film or cinematography shot is lighting! What does lighting do..besides the obvious? It provides sensors for the mind. It builds tone just like music. Through different colors, tones can be delivered, from the evil plot of murder or even just a simple shade to show emotion. Red is used to show things like love, passion, danger, power, and anger. Green used to show nature, ominous, darkness, corruption, and immaturity. A great example of color pallets in movies and shows is the show Ratched(Netflix). Ratched is set in the past and deals with mental illness, in the shot, the young nurse is returning from potential blackmail, the lights in the hallways turn green as she leaves the room. From the green we can tell what she is up to is not good and danger or corruption is on its way or just to add some ominous feeling to what she's planning.

Another important choice is focus. Focus deals with depth of field. The idea of how far and clear you can see an object. Let's say you want to show two people in a car but want the attention on just one of the people, you would change the depth of field to focus on the main man while still showing the second person in the car. Filmmakers can use soft focus to make things appear blurry yet sharp. A common tactic in commercials with bottles or drinks to seem “fancy” or on faces to make the skin seem smoother. The focus directs the attention of the viewer and how sharp the image shows how much they want you to see.
The art of cinematography is being able to tell a story and make people feel emotions, through images. It is often said that the key idea behind what makes a good cinematographer is not about having the best film gear but more about how you are able to use the basic fundamentals of cinematography. Lighting and focus can play huge roles in the feeling and tone of a film. Dumbed-down cinematography is just painting with cameras. Using the same depth of field ideas and same lighting and shaping ideas.

Art. The expression of self. Music, painting, drawing, tattoos, and yes even cinematography. Cinematography, the art of telling a story through motion pictures. You heard me correctly, it is an art. What exactly makes an artist? Oxford dictionary calls an artist..” a person who practices any of the various creative arts…sculptor, poet, filmmaker”. YES, a filmmaker! Filmmakers use cinematography to tell their stories. They use their skills and their internal artist to not just tell but show and make you feel their story. “Cinematography can be broken down into two main components: technical and functional. The technical side of cinematography is using either electronics to record light onto image sensors, or light can be recorded chemically onto film to make videos. Then the functional aspect is combining everything to do with the way the camera captures the images. This includes things such as movement, placement, lighting, and focus.”-(The Michael Group) All components for a good film to portray what the director intends. We are here to talk about the functional side.
