"CHALLENGER DIVISION Flag Football Players and Cheerleaders Wanted"
Season starts Sept. 7 with games played every Sunday from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
What is the Challenger Division? Challenger Division is a division of flag football and cheerleading for special needs children.
What age children are in this division? Children be of any age.
How many games do these children play? The season is 6-8 weeks long. One game played and cheered each week.
Where are Cannoneers Challenge League games played? Home games for the flag football and cheerleading are played at 206 W. 5th St., Lansdale, PA. Occasionally we play at various fields throughout the league in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
What is a buddy? A "buddy" is a volunteer. Similar to Special Olympics, a buddy is someone that assists (shadows) a child playing football/cheerleading. A buddy helps put a smile on a child's face that says to all "I did it".
Who are the coaches? What do they do? The coaches are volunteers. They organize the team in play according to the rules of the "Challenger Program".
During our games our young athletes play along with volunteer coaches and High School football players as buddies (similar to Special Olympics). Challenger generally does not have practice. The Challenger players will pick it up as we go with the help of our coaches and buddies. The Pop Warner Challenger Division provides children with disabilities a new “can do” opportunity where people can see and notice their Abilities. This program has become a great outlet for our children to get out doors, get some exercise, play with peers, and learn from their buddies. The Buddies have learned to accept kids that are different, and have realized that children with disabilities really aren’t all that different. Challenger sports is a once in a lifetime experience for high school athletes to mentor and get to know our special athletes. Our Challenger players look up to their buddies and these teenagers are proving to be great role models for our children.
Challenger Football & Cheerleading games will begin Sunday September 7th, weather permitting. Our home games are Sundays 1:00, at Lansdale Cannoneers home football complex located at 206 West 5th St, Lansdale 19446. Free weekend parking is available in the rear SEPTA lot, directly adjacent to our field. Entrance to the rear SEPTA lot is located at the corner of 206 West fifth St. Lansdale. This year Challenger will play an 8 - 10 game schedule, weather permitting. Our team may travel to other local Pop Warner leagues if we can find an available game. The games only last approximately 1 hour, so we are generally heading home around 2:00.

Experts will discuss how PA ABLE Savings Program and Social Security Disability Programs work together. You’ll hear from Diana Fishlock, outreach specialist for the PA ABLE Savings Program, and Frank Magni, Social Security Administration public affairs specialist.
The PA ABLE Savings Program gives individuals with qualified disabilities a way to save for disability-related expenses while maintaining important benefits and supporting health, independence, and quality of life. The Social Security Administration’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to adults and children who meet requirements for a qualifying disability and have limited income and resources.
The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program pays benefits to individuals and certain family members if the individual is “insured.” While these two programs are different, the medical requirements are the same. Traditionally people receiving such benefits could only save a small amount, but ABLE accounts change the landscape, allowing people receiving these benefits to save for a house, a car, and other everyday expenses.

Higher education opportunities for students with intellectual disability have greatly expanded over the past 20 years as a result of advocacy and improvements to the Higher Education Act. In this interactive session, experts will provide an "intro" to inclusive higher education, sharing information about the over 300 college programs for students with intellectual disability, how to find the right fit, how to apply for financial aid and other funding, and how to prepare in K-12. Think College staff will describe how to use their database of college programs and the positive outcomes from the evaluation of federally-funded model programs. Presenters will explain how to find opportunities to get involved at the local level through state and regional alliances. Helpful resources will be provided and the workshop will include time for discussion and questions and answers.
