Location: Penn State University (Main Campus), University Park, PA
The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR)/Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services (BBVS) Summer Academy Program is designed to offer high school age students with visual impairments an opportunity to develop their knowledge, experiences, and awareness as it relates to their future academic and employment goals. Students will participate in 7-day program on a college campus where they will receive assessments, information, and educational experiences in various curriculum areas. Program curriculum will focus on the areas of Orientation and Mobility, Assistive Technology, Vision Rehabilitation Therapy, Low Vision, Transition Planning, and evening recreational activities.

Participants: Rising high school juniors and high school seniors on the autism spectrum, intending on pursuing a 4-year undergraduate degree
Cost: $450 (includes residence hall stay and meals in the dining hall) (Check only; funding may be available through Office of Vocational Rehabilitation)
Goal: To provide overnight, on-campus, experience that will assist students with ASD to prepare for college
Objectives include: live in a Residence Hall overnight, access the Dining Hall, acquire information with Campus services, tour/experience various on-campus facilities, participate in classroom formats, acquire/practice/generalize college classroom etiquette and communication skills, and learn/differentiate the difference between entitlement and eligibility in the transition from high school to higher education
