Extension is one of the four-fold functions of higher education institutions. According to Philippine Republic Act 8435, State Colleges and Universities must support Local Government Units (LGUs) in their extension efforts by enhancing their effectiveness and efficiency through capacity-building and complementary extension activities, which are carried out physically. By actively managing extension programs and initiatives, extensionists will contribute to the mobilization of knowledge and technology for raising productivity, generating jobs, reducing poverty, and achieving the nation's development goals (CMO 08, s. 2010).
Extension services’ programs and projects of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology carry the banner name PaG-ULIKID, an acronym that stands for Partnership for Good: Unconstrained Life-improving Initiatives from the Kindhearted for the Impoverished and the Disadvantaged.
NONESCOST has been actively engaged in implementing extension programs and projects, through the dissemination and application of new technology and knowledge resulting from research that is aligned with strategic directions and extension agenda. Extension programs aim to diffuse research-based technology that will provide knowledge and skills for sustainable livelihood to improve the quality of life of the community.
To date, a total of 11 research-based extension programs and projects have been initiated and implemented. 11 active partner communities have been established as a result of extension activities.
Moreover, NONESCOST Extension Services is committed to serving the community surrounding the institution with programs that will promote empowerment and development of the lives of the people living in it.
